Started Dogs

Occasionally we have a pup or two that hang around a bit longer than their siblings or a dog returned by an owner due to changing life circumstances. In these cases we work with the dogs/pups on the basics to keep them up to speed. These pups have usually had some leash training, crate training, may have begun potty training, may even have started on some basic commands. This makes the transition to a new home easier for the new owner and a better value as well!

Maddux- 3 yr old male labradoodle

Maddux was an owner surrender a little over a year ago. When he came to us he was extremely anxious, under socialized and fearful of new people and new situations. This was in part because he was purchased during Covid and his family was unable to get him proper socialization opportunities. His social skills with other dogs were lacking as well. Maddux had been deemed “unfixable” by the family’s trainer and they were told he might need to be “put down” Now, if you know us, you know we were not going to let Maddux be given up on at only 2 yrs old. We knew he just needed a chance. Fast forward to now and Maddux has managed to make a couple doggie friends in our pack, although his social skills with other dogs are still not GREAT. If there were to be another dog in his home, he would require a very patient doggie companion. Maddux is still a little wary of strangers but can be easily won over with treats ( he is SUPER food motivated). He has come such a long way in his time with us that we feel he is ready for a home of his own. That said, we do have some requirements of his new owners as we want both the new family and Maddux to be successful this time. He needs a large fenced yard and room to exercise daily, a home with no small children as he is large and very physical still. Small children could easily be knocked over and scared by his exhubrant nature. He also needs a family who are not first time dog owners and have experience training. He thrives on training/learning and this is a great way for him to conitnue to build confidence as well. He also needs someone who understands that a heaping dose of patience will be required. In return, he promises to give you his whole heart, tons of kisses and cuddles. He is also neutred, UTD on vaccines, crate and potty trained, knows all of his basic commands, and is eager to learn new things. He will fetch in the yard and that is a great way to get him some exercise. He enjoys walks but does tend to pull on the leash. We have started using a gentle leader with him and that makes a world of difference. If you think you or someone you know might be a good fit for Maddux, feel free to email ladeal@comcast.net for more details or to meet this gorgeous guy.
